Following our latest NewsList mailing; we received an e-mail from a local (to Yalding) resident; saddened by what she sees as our negative comments towards the Yalding Gardens and their owners and concerned that we are not being supportive of same.  Our correspondent also mentioned that she had read a number of our earlier emails; which caused similar upset. (NB: NewsList members can easily unsubscribe here)

Whilst we have probably addressed these points in the past; time and events move-on. So in the event that it might assist others, similarly concerned; we publish our response below – and would of course welcome comments…

Things appear to be gearing-up for the re-opening at midday this Saturday – 12 June. Indeed, the new ‘Hedgeblog‘ proudly tells us that a new Fracino coffee machine has now been installed – so at least a decent cup of coffee should be guaranteed:-)

Elsewhere on this site, Vivienne expressed the thoughts of many, in welcoming the latest reopening news.

We completely agree; insofar as the re-opening itself is concerned – and it is very good to see some of the site improvements – especially to access – that are being made. Our concerns however, are still in the areas of ‘ethos’ and ‘emphasis’ – effectively; ‘what the Gardens are all about’.

A visit to the Gardens today (Sunday, 25 April) found signs of activity – albeit, not necessarily those you might expect…

The two main ‘Yalding Organic Centre’ signs (and indeed, the old HDRA signs) have gone and have been replaced by pictures of tractors; and a direction sign for their drivers!
